We collect personal data from you within this application to enable us to consider your application to the Nuffield Research Placements Programme, to manage your placement if you are successful and to monitor and evaluate the programme. This means that your data will be shared with the Nuffield co-ordinator for your region. Your personal details, details of your qualifications, your personal statement and your teacher reference may also be shared with organisations who may consider you for a placement. We will not share your personal data with any other third party without your consent.
We will assess your application using a scoring system. We particularly encourage students from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply to the programme. In order to make sure that we are reaching these students successfully, as part of the scoring system we assess the backgrounds of all our applicants. We do this by looking at where your home postcode is ranked in the Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) and at what percentage of students at your school are eligible for free school meals. The scores for your application will be shared with your regional co-ordinator but will not be shared with any other third party.
If we are able to offer you a placement, we will keep your data on our system but will anonymise it after six years. We will keep the records of unsuccessful applications for one year.

When we collect information about your background, we do that for the purposes of equality of opportunity or treatment. The lawful basis we use for this is article 9(2)(g) of the GDPR and Schedule 1 part 2(8) of the DPA2018. We will supply our funders with statistical data for research purposes which will not include any details that could be used to identify you.
